each product or service has a targeted audience. you cannot possibly start a business and target people of all ages and all culture. household income also has something to do with it. people who earn 30k a year cannot afford lot of things that people making 120k per year. for example: a luxury car will only be marketed towards audience that can afford to buy it. you will not see ads of a luxury car on your metro transit free weekly newspaper

The target market is the group of people you want to get the attention of. (Remember 'AIDA'; Attention, Interest, Desire, Action)  You want to market to (appeal to the attention, interest, and desire) a specific group which would be most likely to desire your product, and could afford it.  Your marketing effort to this group is designed to get them to act upon their desire and make a purchase.

Target market is a group of people to which a particular good or service is marketed. It is mainly defined by age, gender, geography, lifestyle, or any other combination of demographics. It is generally studied and mapped by an organization through lists and reports containing demographic information that may have an effect on the marketing of key products or services.

Target market : Demographics defined by but not limited too ( age, race, religion, region, occupation, health, lifestyle ) to your idea or product. What demographics will benefit the most? What demographics are more likely to purchases, download, call to action etc.?

Using psycho and demo you can Target to exactly "who" you are marketing to. With this effective concept you can reach more of the marketed audience.

Still dont get it? you should try taking paid surveys . these will show you exactly what you should be looking for in a marketing stratagy. Also you can make a few bucks for beer.
