Yes, you're not alone - I decided to leave my preparation for my best man speech until the evening before the wedding! I laugh about it now but at the time ....
Luckily I did something intelligent for once - I checked on the internet - wedding best man speech examples and found Dan Steven's best man speeches . There was a small fee at the time (perhaps 19 dollars, might be more now?) , anyway, I had a brief look at which best man speech would best suit my style and the occasion. Copied most of it (ahem) added some of the free jokes etc. And added some personal facts - it may have been mostly template based but it still came across as original and sincere. I had the speech finished within 45 minutes!
I didn't memorize the speech, just read it out from cards (cards are better than paper - people can see shaky paper!) The audience laughed a lot, the speech sounded very professional and everyone was very surprised, knowing my slightly unreliable reputation - ahem (quite undeserved)!
As far as my nerves went, I used the free "Audio confidence booster", and for the jokes I used most from book that came with as well. Anyway, hope that helps in your search for best man speech examples.
