Where are the major hubs of the internet and are they massive computers owned by a government or corporation?
Theres a few diffrent "major hubs" that define the internet!
First of all there are "internet exchange points" which is where all ISP's exchange and traffic. These ISP's have datacenter which house the servers hosting webpages. All these servers and nodes need IP adresses which are handled by the Root Servers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Root_nameserver)
