Does he like me?

Does he like me? I think that a kid in my class likes me he is really nice but only when my bangs are clipped up when they are not he kids around with me a lot in a mean way but joking. He will randomly txt me during class and txt me after school for the hw he never seems to have it.[he asked me for my cellphone number] Also one time he had a book full of unused looseleaf and still asked me for a peice. My friend is always catching him looking at me and noticed he smiles more around me. We are always talking in the class that we are next to eachother. He has asked me questions involing the work and about me. Recently he mentioned that he is going to fail next weeks italian class [he is really smart in the other subjects but isnt the greatest at italian] im pretty good at it and sometimes i give him the italian homework because he doesnt understand it i want to help him study but im too scared to ask. but i did suggest he should go afterschool to the italian class. But i recentlty my friend told me that he told her that he likes a different girl. My friend showed me her but she doesnt look like someone he would like im not sure if i should belive it or not [btw my friend doesnt know that i like him] Should i ask him myself if he really likes her or not Help?
