The old standby is that opposites attract.  That is as true with magnets as it is with people.  Ideal couples are made from people who care enough about each other to nurture their differences and bring out the best in each other.

The second rule of a happy marriage is to be the "second spouse."  After having married you, what would your spouse want in a new one?  Be brutally honest with yourself.  Would the other want a skinflint or a spendthrift or a prudent investor?  So on with all areas of life.  They are:

Money, family, community, self, future, justice, rest, dedication, and eternity.  These nine issues (and how we apply ourselves to deal with these issues) determine what you would want in a second spouse.  What the other spouse wants, is what you should provide and vice versa.

Many opposites are attracted to one another because of the differences in their personalities. They draw on each others strengths, and generally override the weaknesses.

If two people are truly committed to each other, they learn from each others differences and enjoy the challenges. If one or the other is obstinate and unyielding it can pose problems. Depending on the nature of the differences, it can make life much more interesting, or it can make it a total hell. It has everything to do with the individuals involved, and whether or not they are open to new adventures and new experiences.

If two people with opposite likes and dislikes, who are both "set" in their ways should get together, they will undoubtly not stay together long. You have to be a giving person, an understanding person, and a tolerant person to make any relationship work.

Lots and lots. See, here's the thing. All other factors being equal, and love being primary opposite couple support each other in a very balanced way. Where one is weak, the other is strong. If they learn to work together it can be extremely successful.
