Lol, no it wasn't me, it ws my parents. But somehow the managed to get through it all, talking and showing documents, explaining what happened. Next thing I know, we're on the plane! So I've always been wondering tho. It's an irritating question always niggling in my brain, so I want to answer it. :D

If you have enough time you should contact the closest American Embassy. If it's just before departure in many cases the airport document

service can help you. In urgent cases, it can even help you obtain a new ID or visa.
