The first piece of software I ever wrote looked just like this. It was a ping-pong game, on an now-ancient single-line LCD screen CASIO calculator, which could be programmed in BASIC. 

Only when I finished writing this incredibly complex piece of code did I realize that a ping pong game in which the ball moves on a single line is, well, not very interesting.
