I like to see movies as soon as they come out – how long after the public premiere do the movies go on DVD for sale, and how long until they are available at the Movie Rental stores like Blockbuster?
Thatg depends on the movie. Some are released simultaneously in theaters and DVD's. Some use what is called "distribution windows" and those are between 2 to 6 months. Then depends when the movie is released. It might be released early in Europe in theaters, and come to US multiplexes 6monts later, or it might be released first in the States, and later in Europe.

It really depends on movie producers. There's no formula which will predict how long will it take. Nevertheless, I reckon that since DVD became very popular, a few years ago, the time period we're talking about got much shorter. and is usually about 4-5 months.
I think it depends on how popular the movie is and if they think it will bring in money.
