My living room smells like a dog unrinal

First and foremost, you need to figure out why your dog is urinating in the living room in the first place because cleaning it now will do nothing if he/she continues in this fashion. Is he/she being taken out often enough? If so, does he/she have a continence problem? Once you figure that out, I'd suggest using a high powered carpet vacuum washer to remove any smells from the carpet. After that, I'd suggest placing one wee wee pad in the room so your dog can learn that if he/she must urinate, the place to do it is on the mat.

Try an enzyme cleaner like Oxyclean - it "eats" the proteins in the pee and helps stop bacteria growth.  It is the bacteria that cause the smell as they grow (gross, yes I know) and the enzyme cleaners take care of that.  You may have to use it a few times to get rid of the smell, because dogs will keep using the same spot if they can smell pee.
