A baby is God's opinion that life should go on

Sandburg, Carl

The legs were broken to hasten death. The crucifixions took place during the day, and it was getting dark, and the soldiers wanted to go home. By causing such extreme pain the crucified lost consciousness and died.

The thieves died before such measures were necessary.

It was a law that executions not carry over onto the Sabbath. Breaking the legs accelerates death because the victim can't exert pressure with the legs to keep from suffocating. Jesus would have had His legs broken as well, but was deemed to have already died. This confirmed an Old Testament prophecy that no bone would be broken.

You can get all types of explanations but the fact is they could have been put to sleep are have their main artery cut so they would have bled to death rather than break their bones. They were evil, mean people and they loved to watch, even the audience was part of the gore. Thats why they nailed them to a piece of wood instead of killing them outright. This gave a message to all who defy the laws would also be killed in such a horrible manner. And the gore still continues today. Will we ever learn?

the reason is that they would break their legs sothey  coudnt use them to push up and gasp for air. it also made sure they would die more quickly or to see if they were dead. But christ's legs werent broken because in the old testament the sacrifices they used couldnt have a spot or blemish or any broken bones
