I left my US passport at a hotel in France today. I drove to Venice, Italy and that is when I discovered that I did not have my passport with me. A friend of mine that is still in France is going by the hotel and picking up my passport and bringing it to me here in Venice. Until I have my passport back, what are my limitations here in Italy? I should have it back in a couple of days. Thank You.
You haven't lived until you've traveled.
I am reading your question now and am wondering, have you received your passport yet?

I did a little research, the main thing I gather is that upon entering Italy, the authorities normally would stamp your passport. In your case this was not possible. I could not find any specific restrictions for travel in Italy.
Here is some contact information for the U.S. Consulates in Italy, though, they would be able to alleviate any concerns you may have:
The obvious issue is retrieving your passport prior to travel back to the U.S. or to other countries in Europe.
Have a Safe and Enjoyable Trip !
