Why learn the guitar scales

why learn guitar scales

I have been taking guitar lessons for 10 months now and I want to learn to play lead and rythm on 50's and 60's country music . Luther perkins and dsongs like maybe misty moon river . Why do I have to spend so much time on the boring scales and I and doing it and don't know to what extent it will help me ??? Anyone been there or a teacher?? HELP PLEASE. i PLAY THE ELECTRIC GUITAR.

You're learning a skill, not just how to play a particular song.

Once you have mastered scales, you would be familiar bioth with the notes and the fingering required, so basically you're not that far apart from your goal.
