My laptop has win xp and also Wi-fi, How do I get wi fi working again?

My laptop has win xp and also Wi-fi, which when turned on in past would pop up a sonar circle and lock onto a public signal. But now that I have DSL which is more better. I have not used the Wi-fi. But since my laptop is portable and I have somethings to do where public location has wi-fi. I decided to try test before going there. I  disconnected the Ethernet DSL plug and turn on wi- fi the sonar blue circular appeared but there was no rotating line looking for signal to lock in on , So How do I get my wi-fi back up and running for when I am taking laptop out and going to use wi-fi ? And what is the reverse steps if any when return back home and plug back in the Entnet Jack from the Dsl modem and restore Dsl high speed back to my pc. Thank you.

It seems you want to use your Wifi and Ethernet simultaneously.

In that case first thingh you need to check that your modem device has wifi capability or not. If it is, try to do second this which is just go to the you modem console and enable DHCP option.

DHCP option provide automatically IP address for both of your network adepter, Wireless and your Ethernet network adepter.
