can a londlord refuse rent in cash? they want a check or money order. i don't understand why.

probrably they are using the rent money in their taxes and need to show the monetary exchange. either they are using this for the tax breaks, or the tax loss if they have another profitable business

Unless it states it in your lease agreement, no they can't but it would be to your advantage to pay with a check or money order to track you payments.  If you ever have a dispute over payments the paper trail will prove your side.  Also, if you want to buy a house the lender may need proof of your rent payments, cash payments can't be tracked as easily.

Remember...it's your money!

It probably is for tax purposes. If you convince them to accept cash, be sure you get a receipt. It would benefit you, though, to pay by check or money order.

  Because it is illegal ( by law) that landlord taking cash by tenants.
