How to knit a sl 1 wyif k1

I can not for the life of me figure out how to sl1 wyif k1 without doubling the stitch count.  What am I doing wrong???

I think that there are two ways of reading wyif....I think it means "With yarn in front"

Assuming that the previous stitch is a knit, put it on the other side of the knitting (near you), then slip one, then put the yarn back to the back for the next knit.

I think that is the solution!!  I went to a knitting store yesterday and her suggestion didn't work so I thank you!!

I believe that is the correct way of doing it as answered. That it the way I do it. Then to do your knit stitch the yarn is wrapped to the right to the back then knit.
