I think that the world would be missing a lot without celebrities to entertain us but I also think that we, as non-celebrities, are giving certain famous people too much attention. This attention regarding some celebrities and their questionable values and morals is, in my opinion, bad for the rest of society...especially children who are seeing things that they might believe to be normal, such as sexually explicit videos, violence, extravagances most people never attain. This to me, an adult, gives kids a false view of reality. Self-esteem is also damaged by thinking that being skinny is better.
I would love to see children look up to celebrities who are healthy and well adjusted with normal beliefs and lifestyles. But, if even sports figures are doing the wrong thing and getting paid huge paychecks, who can they look up to and beleive in besides the people who are responsible for raising them into well rounded adults? I looked up to my parents when I was growing up but that was a different era.
It would be helpful to this generations youngsters if the press wouldn't print/report all of the mistakes that celebrities make. After all, they are human just like the rest of us and are destined to make some errors in their own lives too. The attention they get for these mistakes, especially all the publicity, is, I believe, the wrong way for kids to learn about whom to look up to and admire.
