Can you join a pvc p-trap to an abs pipe?

Can you join a pvc pipe to an abs pipe? The pipe we have coming out of our bathroom wall under the sink is abs. We have a pvc p-trap that we tried joining to the abs pipe and it leaks. Any suggestions to solve the problem?

The answer is yes you can join the trap or any fitting p.v.c to a.b.s but you have to use a multi purpose solvent available at most hardware or plumbing supply house. My guess is you tried to use a p.v.c solvent, the materials are differant plastics 1 p.v.c is a poly plastic and 2 a.b.s is a styrene. good luck
