What health insurance is recommended for a person that thinks of going full time into his/her own business (self-employed)? Thanks.

Previous posters are good. Let me add...
A. Determine NOW, if you (and family members) are insurable without restrictions that may be important to you. Because you are a non-group, your risk will be individually underwritten and subject to limits and exclusions.
B. Consider major carriers that have preventive care benefits that keep you in better health with lower premiums.
C. Ask your carrier agent if they provide a plan that is compliant with the new Federal HSA (health savings account) program. I suggest that you do a web search on HSA's and become familiar with what they can do for you. It can literally put thousands of dollars in your pocket every year!

Hi, although I am in the military, I do have a state license for health, accident and life insurance. I am not attempting to sell you anything, but I am offering the following resources to assist you in your decision.
Individual Insurance
If you are self-employed or your employer does not offer health insurance, you may not have access to group insurance. You may, however, be able to purchase individual coverage directly from an insurance company. When you buy your own health insurance, you will be responsible for paying the entire premium rather than sharing the cost with an employer. You should shop around to find a plan that fits your needs at a price that you are willing to pay.
Most self-employed workers are able to deduct their health insurance premiums from their Federal taxable income, providing them with an important tax saving. Most States also offer similar tax preferences. If you are self-employed and buy individual health insurance, you should consult a tax adviser to find out if you are eligible for this deduction.
Insurance plans differ greatly from one company to another and, within an insurance company, from one plan or product to another. Some plans have multiple products (options) from which you can choose; read carefully through the "fine print" to be sure you understand the various choices

Also, you may contact the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)—An agency of the Federal Government. Go to the Agency';s Web site at http://www.ahrq.gov to find more information and tools to help you evaluate health plans, as well as many consumer publications on various health topics. Most of the consumer materials are available in English and Spanish. Call the AHRQ Clearinghouse at 1-800-358-9295 to order free copies of publications.
From 1994 to 1998 a number of health insurance laws were passed in South Dakota in addition to the federal passage of the Kennedy/Kassebaum legislation (HIPAA). These laws provide access to health insurance for many persons regardless of their health status. This guide is designed to help persons understand what the rights and obligations of employers and employees are.
the fact that you are self employed is irrelevant at this point.
you have to choose the best insurance you can get as a person
if the insurance includes risks. the fact that you are self employed allows you to get tax refunds
