My iphone 3gs will not charge at all

iphone 3gs doesn't charge - I bought my Iphone 3GS this summer ($400 to replace one that gor dropped in the pool - ouch!) It worked well for awhile, althought it locked up a few times and I had to reboot. Afew days ago it started to hold its charge for a shorter and shorter time till it wouldn't even hold it for a day. I planned to back up all the information today and take it in for an exchange, but when I plugged it in last night it wouldn't change at all - jst shows thew battery icon with the red lw change level and thw lightning bolt charging icon. I have tried with both the usb on my laptop, thw car chager, and the wall plud adapter. I've tried rebooting the iphone and the laptop several times - no go. I know can take it in for a replacement but I'll lose all my contacts, my calendar, and the pictures I took of my grandkids yesterday.

If your iPhone is not turning on, you may want to try "resetting" the phone. If the phone is turned off, you will need to hold the Power key (On the top of the phone) and the home key on the front of the phone. You will need to do this for about 10 seconds or until the apple logo appears on the screen.

You may have to try this a few times.
