I think that many users want to share links with friends.  Mozilla noted this recently:

For me, having an easy way to know in a glance what's new with my friends & contacts is a must. I love the way they do it on facebook. Flickr's way is also nice, though a bit less effective.

10 yrs of Acne Treatment experience.

As user I would want the Groups/Networks feature to make sure the communities are together and then things like images, messaging etc. are the common ones required.
