How to Submit a Blog to Search Engines

  • Step 1
Check to make sure your blog isn't already being utilized by the specific search engine that you want your blog in. Go to the search engine, type in your blog's URL, then click the "Search" button. If you see you blog show up within the results, then you will not need to resubmit to the search engine. For search engines where your blog doesn't show up in the results, continue to Step 2.

  • Step 2
Submit your blog to Google. Since Google is the most popular and common search engine, it'll be used as an example. Many other search engines will give you the step to submit your blog by going to their help section. Go to Google and sign in if you have an account. If you do not have an account you will need to create one.

  • Step 3
Go to the homepage of your webmaster tools. Click on the "Add a site..." button. Enter the full URL of your blog and click on the "Continue" button. Your blog will be added and you'll now be able to see the stats of how your blog is doing in searches. Under the Query section you will see what searches people made to find your blog.

  • Step 4
Go to Yahoo! and click on the option to "Submit Your Site." Click on the "Submit Your Site for Free" option and then log into your Yahoo! account. If you don't have a Yahoo! account, you'll need to create one. Once signed in, click on the "Submit a Website or Webpage" option.

  • Step 5
Enter the full URL and click on the "Submit URL" button. Your blog will now be added to the search made on Yahoo! Continue adding to search engines and refer to blogs and websites with blog directories that you should submit your blog to...

  • Make sure your key searches on your blog entries are specified to what people would search for. Also list your blog in blog directories, especially if your blog is specific to something like music, movies or sports. Network with other bloggers and try to get your blog linked on other people's blogs.

First make sure to create a sitemap.xml for your blog. If you have a Wordpress Blog then there is a plugin to make this job. Then create one account in Google Webmaster and add your blog and upload sitemap.xml. This will help in faster indexing for your blog. Same stitemap.xml you can upload to Yahoo also.

Here is the complete list of Search Engine for submitting your blog.

Although submitting your blog to the search engines is very similar to submitting your website, there are several differences that you should be aware of. Knowing these differences can help you get your blog indexed more quickly because you have submitted your blog correctly.

Regardless of whether you are submitting a blog or a website, if you are submitting to Google, you should create a sitemap. Although you should check your sitemap periodically to make sure Google isn't encountering any errors with your sitemap, once you submit it, you don't have to submit to Google again. All you have to do is keep your sitemap up to date.

If you use a blog like Wordpress, you can install the sitemap plugin. This plugin updates your sitemap automatically and notifies Google that your site has changed.

If you don't use a blogging software that generates sitemaps, you can create your own. Google offers plenty of free tools for creating sitemaps.

Even if you don't have a sitemap, you can still add your site to Google. You just won't get detailed statistics.

Here's where you can submit to Google.

Since Google doesn't allow direct submission to its blog search, you will need to make sure that you submit your site to blog directories Google pulls results from for its blog search, and then make sure you ping these sites when you update your blog.

You can use sites like Feed Shot to submit your site to some of the major blog directories. Then you only need to ping your blog to update it at these directories.

When submitting to Yahoo, you need to submit your site feed instead of a sitemap. Here's where you can submit your blog to Yahoo . Instead of submitting your site, you will use the first block and submit your feed.

There is currently no service that will submit your blog to all search engines. As someone else already said, most traffic comes from Google, so if you submit your blog to Google all the others should find it in time (2-3 months). If you want you can use a free service like submitexpress, but whatever you do, don´t pay for a submission service.

Another easy way to go about this is to submit your blog to dmoz (open directory). All search engines, even Google, visit this site regularly and should find your blog.
