Rejected slogan #235:

Yedda - a brain the size of a planet.
A:

I tried to list major differences between Yedda and Yahoo Answers in my previous reply. Let me try to clarify my points:

From the asker point of view:

  • More attention to each question – the questions you post are continuously sent to more and more relevant people for as long as you wish (i.e. until you are satisfied with the answers). This prevents the "bulletin board effect" – where older questions disappear from view when new questions are posted. So there is a better chance of getting good answers even for the harder questions or questions on less common topics.
  • Easier categorization of the question using free form topics and selection from topics suggested by Yedda based on what other users used to describe similar questions
  • More freedom of expression – no limitations on question length, can embed styling, graphics and links.
  • Better reuse of existing answers – Yedda's associative match finds more relevant previously answered questions.
  • Openness and simplicity – you can ask as many questions as you need to and as often as you need to, without regards to how many points you have – there is no points or credits or any other type of limitation on Yedda.

From the answerer point of view:

  • Personalization – Yedda understands what topics you are interested in, and will continue to search for questions on these topics to deliver to you.
  • Express yourself – you will be providing the answers. So, we think there should be a lot of space for you to tell everyone about yourself, starting from your profile page and continue with your tag line, a rich area where you can send your messages to the world and promote whatever is close to your heart, and which appears next to each post you make.
  • Filtering – there is a lot of stuff that's happening online and offline at any given moment, requiring your attention. Yedda attempts to filter out the topics you don't care about, so that most of the questions you see are in topics you do care about.

(These are the differences you see right now. As I said in my previous post, there is a lot more coming, but, I'm sure you'll understand if we choose to keep some of these competitive differences close to our chest while we're working on finalizing them)

Another difference is that, due to resources constraints (did I hear anyone saying boot strapping?), you're probably not going to see a major PR event getting the world celebs to ask and answer questions on Yedda.

But, hopefully you are going to see Yedda growing and maturing in the hands of a team that's rather single-minded focused on providing you the best possible service for personal knowledge exchange.

Does this answer your question?
