A research that was done in 2004 (Auter, Arafa & Al-Jaber) estimated the number of 45 million Al-Jazeera viewers around the world. In our days estimations stands on 50 million.

I would refer al-jazeera as an reliable source, but its true significance is the open debate, which is very uncommon in the Arab world. While in most Arab TV channels the "information" coming through is dictated from "above", al-jazeera allows free speech for its journalists and speakers.

".. I only have to guarantee that my sources are reliable, credible and precise."

You can read this article with the Editor, although like left speaker said it is open to debate.

Al-Jazeera is watched by more then 40 million Arabic speaking people all over the world. There is also an al-Jazeera English. But it only started a couple of months ago, so any viewing ratings would be premature.

See: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6106424.stm

Qatar based al-Jazeera is independent from any government, although partly funded by Qatar. They present also news that is against the linkings of many governments, thus proving that they are not mere followers of (Arabic) regimes. They have also hosted talk shows with people representing the Israeli point of view, which is very unusual in the Arabic world.

Prior to being emplyed by al-Jazeera, many of its journalists have been working at arabic languaged channels around the world, among which the BBC World Service and the Radio Netherlands World service. Al-Jazeera is deemed very reliable among many western Journalists.

The English languaged version might even be more reliable, as it employs many journalists coming from different backgrounds and cultures and thus broadening the network, general views and scope of the channel.

Are you talking about Aljazeera Arabic or Aljazeera English? I have seen figures between 20 to 50 million people for Aljazeera Arabic.   The English version is available on cable and satellite to at least 100 million people, mostly in Asia, Africa, and Europe. It's not yet clear how many of these actually watch Al Jazeera English. I suspect more people watch Al Jazeera English than BBC or CNN in non-Arabic speaking Muslim countries, such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, etc. It's also streamed on the Internet. More than 20,000 pay $6 in the US (not counting other countries) to watch it on the Internet. (source Kansas City Star). Yes it's reliable but with Arab/Muslim focus/bias.
