Qatar based al-Jazeera is independent from any government, although partly funded by Qatar. They present also news that is against the linkings of many governments, thus proving that they are not mere followers of (Arabic) regimes. They have also hosted talk shows with people representing the Israeli point of view, which is very unusual in the Arabic world.
Prior to being emplyed by al-Jazeera, many of its journalists have been working at arabic languaged channels around the world, among which the BBC World Service and the Radio Netherlands World service. Al-Jazeera is deemed very reliable among many western Journalists.
The English languaged version might even be more reliable, as it employs many journalists coming from different backgrounds and cultures and thus broadening the network, general views and scope of the channel.
