This is why we need to see health insurance reform of some kind.  Most insurance companies will not offer a policy if you have a pre-existing health issue.  Some will accept certain illnesses, but they usually will put a 12 month acceptance rider, so you will be paying for a full year before you can access coverage. Large group policies work like this, but individials are out of luck for the most part.  You are out of luck with current system if you are not associated with a group and even if you are, the costs are usually very high.

If you don't have any coverage at all, this may help, there is a free discount prescription card you can print instantly and save 75% or more at 58000 major pharmacies, they also offer similar discounts on lab work, MRI's and similar special services, so no sense paying full price.  They stated a health care program will be available soon, so it may be worth getting a free card to see how much you can save while you search for health insurance.

I found card and printed it off at www.RecessionProof-Business.com

A good government website to start with is the Americans with Disabilities Act website at http://www.ada.gov/ .

Another very helpful site related to the government and disability can be found at http://www.disability.gov/digov-public/public/DisplayPage.do%3fparentFolderId=500 .

Finally, the US Government's official disability site can be found at http://www.ssa.gov/disability/

Many states also offer help with both federal SS disability programs, and also with programs you state might offer. Google for disability programs in your state.

Good luck!
