I don't think that it's supposed to have any affect at all.  I've never even heard of that.

If my dog bit someone on my property, the homeowners insurance would cover it. You have to make sure it is in your policy though.

It also depends on what type of dog you have. The more dangerous dogs (by reputation of breed) will influence what insurance you need and what it cost. Dogs such as Pit Bull, Rotties, German Shepherds that have a reputation for biting more may influence your insurance.
