Yes you need to install the outlet box. The box you want is called a "gem box  " it is 2" wide X 3" high and approx. 2 1/2 " deep Depending on your elect.code the Box is either metal or made of plastic and  usually comes with 2 clips on it . The clips are the Drywall clips that hold it in a sheetrock wall. You want to install the box in the center of a wall bay.....You want to locate the studs in the wall, Wood studs are usually 16" on center and you want to be as close to center as possible between 2 studs to avoid hitting them.(or as close as you can get to 1 stud without hitting it )This area between the studs is the wall bay.Take the box and a pencil, place the opening of the box against the wall in the spot you want the LIGHT.Trace around the box, marking the wall,When you are done you should have the outline of the box on the wall. Now you need a Sheetrock Saw, A keyhole saw (booth the same thing) poke the tip of the saw through the wall, and gently start to cut out the sheetrock in the out line of the box.You want the cutout to be as tight as possible around the box so take your time. The 2 clips on the side of the box are what hold it in the wall.Once the box is in the Wall the 2 clips (1 on each side) are tightened up with a screwdriver  and open up behind the wall to hold it in.Thats the easy Part.... You Know you need to get Electric to that box,Can you handle that Part??? If not, is the Light going to be Switch Controlled, by a wall switch,OR does the Light itself have a switch on it. Where in the Room is the nearest Receptacle.

This might be tough if you have no knowledge of this.  Easy to do, attach a plug to the light and run it to the nearest recpitical. If you need the box in the wall,  you will need power. decide where you want the switch box. install. come out of the nearest box to the new switch box. It can be another switch box or a recptical. if it is a recptical, tie the white to white, black to black and ground to ground. If from another switch box, same except tie the black to the power black. You will need to pigtail off this. Run the power wire the to new switch box mark it.  Install the box in the wall for the vanity, run a wire from it the the new switch box. shoud use a 14/2 wire if on a 15 amp circuit, or 12/2 for a 20 amp circuit. wire in the light. black to black, white to white, ground to ground. The light will use a green or bare wire for the ground. In the switch box tie the white to white. pigtail off the gound as you will need to ground the switch also. their is a green screw on the switch for the ground. tie the power black wire [wire coming from the old receptical or old switch box, [the one you marked]] to the top screw, tie the black wire coming from the light to the bottom screw of the switch. Turn back on power and it should work.  If running power from a receptacle. Not a good idea to run from a GFCI or any other  on a GFCI circuit. It will work, but the problem with that is any fault in the circuit, such as the ground touching something, or loose caps will trip the circuit and make you think you have a bigger problem. If you have trouble you can send contact info to me and I will be glad to talk with you.  Hope this helps and does not confuse you

Hi Frank, Thank you so much for your deatiled answer.  I can totally picture doing all that myself.  As far as the electric... I am in luck.  The wiring is already done, in fact the wires are sticking out of a hole in the wall exactly where I want to install the new fixture.  I suppose I will just shut the electricity off at the main box, and work around the wiring.  Thanks again Frank!
