Is Information Security Failing?

In my experience security that is based on security standards is never enough. Hackers thrive and knowing the rules and finding ways to break them. Good security is more than following standards it is about knowing about as much as possible so you can implement the best security. Most companies feel they have good security but underestimate what hackers are willing to do. I think the best security is knowing your enemy. The more you know the better security you can provide. I do agree the security in a lot of ways is failing, because people don't want to work or are not as motivated as most hackers. Not sure if this is an answer to your question, but I don't think there is a real answer to that question.

i aggree that there are a lot of unprofessional "security Experts" but i dont think that information security is failing.

this is just a natural cat and mouse race that will always be.

the internet is still quite new to a lot of people and they are not aware of the risks untill they actally get hit.

with good education and awareness a big  percentage of the incidents will go down.

As for organization security, you just need to be alerted 24/7 for all new security breeches and act accordingly.

You'll have to be more specific... Current practice is not capable of meeting all desired goals at an acceptable cost, if that's what you mean.

although coputer security is relatively complex, and many problems are created because of lack of knowledge - most of what described in the article is because of other problems.

you can protect your computer relatively easily from most viruses and trojans, but you'll have to avoid also functinality most people do wan't - like downloading programs from the internet.

it's like a lock on your door - if you install one you're preety secure. but if you let people you don't know get inside, the lock wouldn't help.

another major issue is that computer security can do many things to protect you, but once you're hit theres not always what to do.

to sum up - if security is a major issue for you, and you're willing to invest some time, and avoid some features that are known security holes, you can protect your system.
