Plan your menu in advance. Look for coupons on things you will use, and check grocery store ads for sales on items, as well.

Perhaps you can also go in with a friend or family member on bulk items or items of larger quantity; splitting the cost and each taking half so as to save money and take advantage of bulk pricing.

Also, keep in mind that convenience foods and ingredients (such as ready-made stuffing mix) may save time, but they actually may cost more than buying ingredients to make the item from scratch when you factor in cost per pound. Look at the unit labels on the store's shelves to help you make wise choices and never settle for something just because it's cheap if you know you won't actually eat it.

Good luck!

luvfood3,  You can always try getting yourself invited over to some else's house for dinner.  Try jkgrandma, the previous poster.  She is a fantastic cook.

Buy a frozen turkey early. The price around here is only 29 cents per pound.

Life is a one lap race. Make many pitstops.

When you stop to think about it, turkey is a very inexpensive and nutritious meat, especially if you can catch it on a special price. Make your dressing from scratch and include simple vegetable side dishes. Go easy on the desserts and you are there. Don't forget that the turkey sandwiches you eat the next day adds to the value of turkey. When you factor all the advantages of a turkey dinner, it is a very good buy! Happy Thanksgiving!

And when the turkey bones are sitting there with very little meat left on them, make soup. Throw in the leftover gravey, stuffing, potatoes and veggies and you have excellent homemade soup. Yummy!

We all gather at someones house and everyone brings something. We have a turkey, ham, squash, peas, carrots, several casirols and many deserts we just make a list of what everyone wants to bring.Usually everyone has a special dish they make and we all bring some leftovers home.Note we do this on all the holidays because the cost for one we be extreme, this way everyone saves.
