idle air control gasket for 1990 Sentra 1.6 automatic fuel injected was missing when that part was opened. How important is that part-gasket & must I find one to put in -in order to to idle run perfect? Idling not right in day one & recently shut off often. Please care for your input. Maybe not at all, depending upon the machined surfaces, but I'd use it if U see it's leaking. To test, spray area while running with WD-40 OR Carb Cleaner & Listen for engine sound to change. John
Unfortunately this parts are cast alloys and are NOT machined parts which fit together much better. The fact that aluminum is a soft metal and makes it easy to get a scratch or dent in the part which can cause an air leak. From my 25+ years experience doing auto repair as a side job it is CRITICAL that you take the IACV off and even if you cut out your own by using gasket material you need something to seal it properly. This is especially critical if the two adjoining parts are made of different metals then their expansion rates would be slightly different and without a gasket to make up the difference it would eventually leak and run like crap every time you attempted to use it. The IACV depends on vacuum to work properly. No gasket no vacuum....no vacuum your car is a yard ornament. If you want to drive this car at all put the proper gasket on it at the correct torque or at least make your own gasket being sure to follow the contour of the part and follow directions regarding areas not to be covered as outlined in your repair manual. The previous writer could have easily been correct if this part was a machined part that has close tolerence specifications. They have wide tolerances as in most cast parts that are produced en masse and cheaply.
Good luck.
