How can I identify the source of incoming web traffic?

How can I identify the source of incoming web traffic?

Using Windows XP Home,is there some relatively simple way to identify the source of incoming traffic.  Even though I use a firewall, from time to time I notice unexpected incoming traffic and I'd like to be able to identify its source.

When you say source of incoming traffic, I assume you want to know the (geographical) location of the network traffic thats ending on your machine as a destination...well you can use a firewall like Zone-Alarm and turn it on when surfing the web...its gonna show up the IP addresses of the traffic...also you can use netstat command in DOS to look at which IP addresses are making a beeline to ur machine...but most of those IP addresses might be that of firewalls at other ends...so too look at the destination you might have to use tools like Traceroute that can show you the geograophical location of those IP addresses.

Hope this helps & good luck...Smile

C1ph3r, thank you for your response.

Although I haven't been able to get quite the details I wanted, I was able to use your suggestion of netstat and traceroute along with whois to get some information.  For the time being, I suspect that will be adequate.

Thanks to yedda and C1ph3r, I now have at least a partial answer -- not 100% complete, but more than I knew before. So a worthwhile experience.
