I don't think that giving your dogs dog food instead of your own food will make any odds. The dogs are begging because you're eating, and they want some; if you feed them, you're reinforcing in their minds that begging at the table is OK. Which it's not, and you don't like it, otherwise you'd not ask the question on here! I think you need to be firm with dogs and husband - each time the dogs beg, say 'No' very firmly. And explain to your husband that the dogs begging at the table is upsetting and annoying for you, and that you really need his help in getting them to stop. He has to say 'No' to them as well. Only ever feed your dogs from their bowls at their mealtimes. If you always say 'No' to them at your table, they will eventually learn.  Good luck!!

During meal times, I keep my dogs out of the dining room so no one can feed them table food.

Perhaps he isn't feeding them any longer, but the dogs haven't stopped whining because they want the food you're eating. If they know there's food on the table, they'll beg for some. It's just what animals do. Why not shut them out of the room at mealtimes?

So I actually forgot to mention I live in a small studio apartment. Otherwise, I would put them in another room.

I'm thinking of leaving dog food on the table and just handing it to them when they come whining. Do you think they'd notice it's not really the food I'm eating?
