BW, what you ask is by definition completely impossible.

Machines and biologics do not interact well.  Prosthetics have come a long way since the peg leg, but to transport the human mind into a machine is best left to science fiction.

The tragic case of the Star Wars character, Anakin Skywalker, shows what can go wrong with such an idea. 

More importantly, no machine can repair itself, which a living body does quite well.

I'd say there are many more years of R&D to be done before we can put a crippled old person in a mechanical exoskeleton.  But it would be nice!
