My home was built in 2003. We purchased it last year (07). I hear crackling sounds, is the house still settling? Also My washer and dryer in on the top floor, will that damage the beams when it's on the spin cycle. Thank you.

Love is the battery of life....

Hi,
Most probably the ground (the soil) in your place is not stable (or, is "working" = Has slow "drifts", or, in other words: constantly having tiny movements).  If that the case it's a major problem and it will never dissapear.....  It starts with noises than it follows with cracks..... It's frustrating cause you'll keep on investing and the cracks will keep on comming.....  I have a similar problem in my house.  If you have a house or a roof made of wood, the noises can be a result of temperature changes (the stucture expands and contrats).
No, the washing machine + the dryer shouldn't damage the beams while spinning (the applied: stresses / vibrations / moments are relatively low).
Best regards,
