I have 50 year old formica counter tops. I cannot afford to replace them right now, so I thought that I would paint them. I want to paint them with a copper paint and then patina them. Is this going to turn into a disaster? Thanks Christy
I once had a coffee table someone threw away which had an old and pretty disgusting laminated top. I was afraid the paint wouldn't latch to the plastic, so I bought adhesive sheets and put them on the table. No muss no fuss, and you get them really in all shapes and sizes. Also once you tire of one particular design, you easily replace it :-)
I got very very good results covering formica kitchen unites with vinyl sticker wallpaper, it's durable, easy to clean and very easy to use.
I think it'll work way better then paint.
Have you checked the condition of the formica the underside ? Maybe damaged. 50 years old, time to replace with a new countertop. There not that
expensive.
Ed :)
No paint is as durable as the plastic your going to paint.
It's going to scratch and look bad with use. Be prepared for that.
Use a good, messy, hard to clean up oil base paint not a latex.
I like the adhesive sheet idea better.
