Hello! My home is on a raised foundation. I have a problem with moisture under the house - I can smell the musty order in some closets. What is your opinion of crawl space fans ? I have also looked into a process where the crawl space is sealed which is far more expensive then I can afford. I'm a widow and unfortunately not very handy. I have two children and I'm a bit worried about developing mold issues. What do you think is a good solution? Thanks in advance.

How high is it off the ground? Could you lay plastic under house? If it's just a couple feet.

Look to make sure all you down spouts are pointing away from the foundation to reduce the moisture going into the crawl area. Make sure all your crawl space vents are open.

Spreading 6 mil poly rolled plastic on the entire crawl floor area is a good way to trap ground moisture on the ground and keep it there. Sold at Lowes or Home Depot

I agree with the plastic but wouldnt waste my money on it before making sure of the following.

1) Make sure the gutters are not clogged

2) make sure downspouts extend out at least four feet

3) make sure all the ground slopes away from the house (including behind shrubs)

If you do all of these things you may not need the plastic at all.
