Why are all my doors hung lop sided.  My husband seems to be doing all the right things but all my doors have small gaps at the top of the doors on the side where the knobs are?

If I can't do it right I won't do it

He is doing ok if the gaps are small. The gap should be even from top to bottom and across the top. This gap should be 1/4 inch or less and the same all along the edges. If there is no gap the door will stick with humidity and temp changes. You also should have about 1/2 inch under the door to clear the carpet.    Every thing looks good from what you said.  Keep up the good work.  Have a great holiday.

You can accomplish anything you put your mind to.

The doors are either not level not plumb or a little of both. Start by making sure the level is accurate both plumb and level. Check by flipping the level end for end to make sure the bubble is in the same location. sometimes brand new levels are off so always check them before buying. Next check the floor with the level. (example: if the floor is 3/8" higher on the hinge side then cut 3/8" off of the new jamb on the hinge side so the door will sit level.) Now install the door and shim the hinge side 1st and make sure it's plumb then shim the latch side and check your gaps. Leave a bigger gap in the winter or when humidity is lower because the door will swell with humidity.

If the doors are prehung and he is doing everything right , then have him check the door with a framing square.once in awhile they make doors that aren't perfect. If the doors are square, then they are not installed properly.Or there might be a staple or something underneath the knob side.
