A:

Jose' Gaspar was in the Spanish Navy but was kicked out when one of his woman playmates accused him of stealing her jewelery. He became a pirate and terrorized the Florida And Louisiana Coast for many years, was a friend of John LaFitte, another notorious pirate. Gaspar went down in a successful suicidal attempt to avoid capture from the US Navy. The Navy had disguised itself as a merchant ship and just as Gaspar and his crew started after her, the Navy ship unveiled herself and attacked. Funny how memory takes its time in coming, but with the right "KEY" on can cough up information long forgotten. I would say Gaspar was significant because the City of Tampa has a Gasparilla celebration every year around the same time as Mardis Gras.
