What does high protein in blood mean?

My cancer doctor told me the last I saw him that I had high protein count in my blood.  He said he will have to keep an eye on it.  It has nothing to do with my diet.  He didn't seem concerned.  Does anybody have any idea what high protein in my blood could mean.  I really couldn't find anything on the internet.  I won't see him until September when I get a ct scan.  They will check my blood for protein 1 week after my ct scan.  Thanks.

There is a certain quantity of protein present in the normal blood sample. However, if this quantity exceeds the standard protein content in blood it is a cause of concern. It indicates  that you might have the following problems:
- An inflammation or infection such as Hepatitis or HIV
- A bone marrow disease such as multiple myeloma amylodosis.

However, since your doctor doesn't seem concerned, I would think that he has already looked into the above two possibilities.

Oh gee, I hope you are wrong.  Are you serious?  I never expected an answer like that.  When I see the doctor in September and they they take a blood sample to check my protein count, then I will know.  Thank you for answering my question.

I am not a doctor, so please don't take what I say to be right, but I would advise you to check it out with your doctor. Good luck and I hope that everything is ok.

I am not in the medical profession at all, and do not claim to know all the medical jargon, but yesterday I accompanied my Mum to hospital who has now had 5 of 6 chemo sessions. I know an average person has a count of between 10-35 proteins naturally in their body, anything higher is a cause for concern. They are hoping that chemo can reduce an abnormally high count (my mother's was over 240) and now it is down to 38 thus proving the chemo is working.   The reason the body has extra proteins is because cancer cells send out  unwanted proteins and if the treatment is working, has killed off cancer cells therefore less protein is being produced.
