They can be painful, irritating and often bleed. Both inner and outer can cause problems. If they were to rupture, they could become serious. You would know by profuse amounts of blood in your stool. I had one that was very small from having childbirth, that was small and non-irritating, but for vanity reasons I had it removed. Mine started on inside and protruded to outside. The surgery was a breeze. I had minimal pain, but that also depends on how big/deep they are. good luck. M.
