How can i help him

A friend of mine has already done a 3 years stint in prison for being involved in a armed robbery.

he is now out and on good behavior but has been caught drink driving twice. I realise that this means he will probably go back in this time, but when he gets out again does anyone have any ideas on how to boost his self esteem so he can see he is worth more?

i really dont think he thinks he is.......

just so you know im not dating this person and please dont answer if you are going to say he is a loser etc etc

The road to nowhere is paved with good 'intentions'.

I Love God!!! I say this first, because He is the very best advise I have!  I've gone through a lot of rediculas crap in my life, infact spent time in jail, I have had 4 DUI's, a failed Marriage behind me, and the list goes on!!  I was caught up in such a horrible cycle of self-destruction I'm often surprised I'm still Alive!

I just answered someone elses question who was having trouble with a friend in trouble,  and this cool thing came to me.. Christian Concerts!  They are so fun, and so many cool people who love God and Jesus go to those things.  If your friend likes Rock, Country, Pop Music, whatever, you can find the Concert this Summer,  and it's all based on Worshiping God, it will honestly move his Soul and Spirit,  both of you would probably make some really awesome friends there too, maybe get invited to a Church or Bible Study.  Jesus can turn anyones life around no matter what a mess they seem to be.  It's really a fun new lifestyle filled with Love and Hope.  Music is such a Powerful way for God to reach His lost people.   That is my best advise to you in helping your friend!!!  (Without seeming like you're shoving Religion down his throat) 'you know'.

Here is the flip side of that last idea...  I think your friend is a Thrill Seeker!  You need to help him find a 'constructive' way to use his energy.  A lot of people who get themselves into trouble are looking for the thrill, maybe even attention.   I'd suggest stuff like hang gliding, mountain climbing, race car driving, demolition derby, Sky diving.. etc.. He'd be too busy enjoying his freedom to get locked up again.

Honestly there's really nothing you can do but support him. He needs to figure out by himself that it's time to grow up and do what's best for him. You can encourage him, support him with anything and care for him but he has to do the footwork! Good Luck.

If your friend has been caught drunk driving twice despite the fact that this is a parole violation that could land him back in prison he quite likely has an alcohol addiction.  Please support him and encourage him to seek help along these lines.  Also, as a friend of this person, it would be good for you to seek help through Al-anon.  After all, you want to help him, not enable him.  Please remember that he is the only one who can decide it is time to change his patterns but having someone in your corner offering moral support is a wonderful thing.

I agree that Christ is the ONLY way to go.  Through HIM all things are possible and there is a wonderful Bible available, The Life Recovery Bible, that offers the Word in a way that works with the Twelve Steps of Alcohol Anonymous but can apply to any addictive life cycle.  Example, I recently quit smoking and this Bible has many recovery themes that are helpful.  I pray that your friend will give himself to Christ and let the Savior work within him and that you will have the strength to help him while allowing him to help himself.  If you haven't found your way to Christ take this opportunity, pray the Sinner's Prayer, accept that you are a sinner (we all are), that you believe Jesus gave His life to redeem us and that you need Him in your life.  Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them." .

I wish the best for both of you.
