My six year old son had what appeared to be a migraine - a severe headache just behind his left eye and a tummy ache. Is it common for children this young to have these attacks? I suffer with migraines too with "aura" - are they hereditary?
Hi Mummy P,
Unfortunately it is possible for children as young as 6 to get migraines, and yes, they can be hereditary. You might want to take him to the doctor at some point to find out what sort of medication you can give him when and if he gets another one. That way you can be prepared. I hope that he is feeling better now.
Yes. I had migraines at a very young age. Fortunately, while it won't relieve his misery, kids who get migraines very young tend to age out of tjem eventually. Though he may be in for many years of them. I aged out of them in my forties. Haven't had one since.
