not entirely. there is no pill or injection you can give to make an autistic person "normal". the altered brain function in autistic people is of unknown origin. it is even not clear that all autistic people share the same disease - it can be several abnormalities we "normal" people put together although they are from different origins.

there are, however, many treatments for autism - there has been found a connection to nutrition and  intestinal problems in selected groups of autistic people, in which changing the diet actually helped with some of the symptoms.

the main therapies nowadays are  behavioral and there are endless methods -some better proven than others, to treat autistic people, mostly children. much of the treatment involves helping parents and family members cope with the autistic child and how to get the most out of him.

it is important to remember that autistic people are, many times, intelligent and at least partially  aware of their abnormality. to them it is not a disease, but only a different way of viewing and living life. some would even say - a more realistic view. so in many cases you first have to ask - is treatment (or trying to treat) the best way? or should the surrounding social group just have to learn to live with the new weird, unusual member.
