I'm health, fairly fit and constantly exhausted.

Im a 28 year old woman and am constantly tired. I'm not overweight or obese, I'm 5"7 and weigh around 9st, I get 8 hours sleep every night however I am always exhausted and can never be bothered going out or doing anything, my eyes hurt, my head feels fuzzy and my muscles actually ache! If I do go out I'm back home by 11pm latest. I take my dog for walks everyday and eat fairly healthily.

I've been to the doctor and had blood tests - all have come back perfect. I have been like this for the past year and a half and I stopped my Lithium medication 5 months ago because I thought that was the cause - but it obviously wasn't. This is really starting to upset me - I had a very good social life and was always the life and soul of the party and now I can't be bothered to step outside my house because i'm tired by 8.30pm!!!

Please help, any advice would be great!

I understand completely.  In 1994 I had to quit my full time job as a Auto Body Shop manager.  I had similar symptoms plus other strange symptoms that didn't seem related to one another.  I was so tired all the time I felt like someone had drained all the energy out of me.  My muscles ached all the time and were tender to the touch.  I couldn't stand to be hugged or squeezed.   I was diagnosed with dry eyes.  I had bouts of diarihrrea for a week or so at a time.  My knees would hurt and swell .  I developed allergy and sinus problems.  My hair fell out by the handfulls.   There are many other different symptoms that can come and go with this.  I was eventually diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.  Look it up on the internet and you can read all about it.  Another illness that can be similar is Lyme disease, caused by a tick bite.  they now have better tests for this disease.  One of the things that has helped me tremendously is a very good vitamin and mineral supplement called RELIV.  i take the Classic ,Fibrestore and Innergize.  It has helped with the pain and the fatigue.  Nothing elase has really helped
except I have to take pain meds. sometimes. Not as often as I used to.  The newest drug to be prescribed is Lyrica.  Helps some people.  Hope this helps.

SazzaUK,  Go see your doctor and have a blood test taken to test your thyroid.  I used to be so tired, it was a big effort for me to walk from my kitchen, down the hall to my living room.  I was tested, and I have hypothyroidism, an under active thyroid.  I take medication for it every day.  Untreated, it slows your metabolism way down, and you are constantly tired.  I hope your problem is not serious, and you feel better soon.

If the lithium was treating a bipolar disorder, it could be that you're beginning to tend toward the depressive side once more...much of what you mention are symptoms of depression.  Another thing you may want to consider is your hormone levels.  Check with your gynecologist. He/she should run some tests for thyroid function and basic female hormone levels.

Please do check with these professionals and not let your condition be allowed to worsten. You don't want to be facing a serious depression or be tolerating something that can be remedied with basic hormone therapy!  Good Luck to you!

If you find yourself in a "goldfish bowl" make it your own personal "ocean."

Hi,

You have received some pretty good responses...You say you went to a Physician and that your blood tests were all normal...However, since your problem still exists, I wonder - Did you call your physician again to discuss what else it may be?

You say you "stopped taking your Lithium" 5 months ago...Was that the physician's suggestion? Or was that your own? And, if it was your own, does your physician know about this?

Perhaps you are not aware that it is not wise to suddenly discontinue medications, especially one so crucial to your overall well being, such as Lithium.

Your symptoms mirror many maladies, and it is difficult for any of us in this forum to make a proper diagnosis...However, the advice I would give is to see your physician, take care of this now before it worsens...You are being crippled by this "exhaustion" and it will not go away on its own...I believe that your perserverance will endure, and eventually you will find out the origin of your exhaustion, and low motivation.

You are very aware, I am sure - that your symptoms are classic signs of depression...So, please get the proper help, you are a young girl, you have many years ahead of you...Why not make the most of them by getting to the root of the problem, with proper diagnosis ( I am assuming due to the drug Lithium that you have been diagnosed by a physician)- and with the proper treatment, along with guidance and input you will lead a functional and well balanced life.

Go with a good friend, or family member, you need a support system in place to get you through this frustrating time in your life.

All my best to you...Good luck.
