Read that article, it's actually thorough. I found it by searching "chocolate" and "menstrual pain" on google because i knew that to be the cure. Wink

My advice:

"Happy" food, like  cheese, yogurt and chocolate  should ease the pain. They all contain compounds that have that effect. You can go for diet chocolate, as long as you are getting chocolate.

I also strongly recommend for you to enrich your diet with Zinc  - red meats (especially organ meats), seafood, leafy vegetables and root vegetables - before your menstruation.

Hi,

Lots of things you can try:

  • Blanch ginger or lemon balm tea and drink.
  • Warm a small amount of olive oil, cool and rub on stomach. Lie down for 15-20 minutes.
  • Take a cotton wool pad that covers most of the belly, soak with arrack and put on the painful spot (lower abdomen), wait for half an hour.
  • Swallow 1 tablespoon of cumin and 1 glass of arrack to reduce the Menstruation Pain.

Home Remedies for
P.M.S.

   (Prementrual Syndrome)

Prementrual syndrome is the most common gynecological complaint of women, it affects about 60% of them. The symptoms appear one or two weeks before menstruation starts, and they include: abdominal bloating and cramps, acne, anxiety, breast tenderness and swelling, and mood changes.

During menstruation there is an imbalance in hormones and brain activity, and it is believed that too much estrogen, uneven levels of progesterone and an inability to cope with hormone changes are main causes of PMS. But the real reason as to why this condition affects so many women, is unknown.

About 5% of women suffer such as severe complications that incapable of function normally during this period, others claim symptoms interfere with their daily activities.

Using herbs we can return hormone levels to their normal level and proper diet can help reduce many of the symptoms. The final result is a body that is back in balance, without using drugs and without experiencing any side effects.

We recommend

Take magnesium 1,000 mg. a day . Deficiencies have been linked to PMS.

Take calcium 1,500 mg. a day this helps reduce some symptoms.

Take Vitamin B6 reduces water retention and increases blood circulation to the female organs.

Take Vitamin E to help reduce breast soreness.

TIP:
Did you know that caffeine makes the changes of suffering from severe PMS symptoms 4 times greater?

Black cohosh relieves premenstrual tension, menstrual cramps and water retention, helps control mood changes.

Dandelion root is a very powerful diuretic that helps evacuate excess water and bloating, but is safer then commercial diuretic because it does not deplete potassium. Another important quality is that helps the liver discard estrogen thus relieving PMS.

While I get cravings for chocolate, it is not good to eat it if you are having problems with PMS. In fact chocolate and caffeine are the two worst contributors to PMS. Diet helps significantly with PMS. Sugar, carbs, high bad fats, and salt all contribute. You need to get more veggies in your diet—and wash them well if not organic because pesticides can mimic estrogen in your body. If you need support while you are changing your diet, the supplements that have helped me the most are the herb chasteberry (around 200mg standardized), and the lipotropics choline(1000gr) and methionine (500gr) daily. My experience with these supplements came about while trying to wean myself off Depo (I was getting injections for birth control). Every time I tried to go off the Depo, I would develop painful, hard lumps in my breasts. I contacted several conventional and alternative doctors without much luck but plenty of frustration. Finally I did some research myself. I was able to get off the Depo by taking the above three supplements and following some other guidelines I found Dr. Michael Murray’s book Total Body Tune-Up (supported by other research I did from other sources). They basically provide hormonal balance. Give it two months to see results. I don’t work for any of the companies I am mentioning, I just am providing them as guidance and to save some time ( I am in the wine business—not the health industry—but I like to research many different topics). I use Nature’s Herbs Power Herbs Chasteberry –Power in 100mg capsules, Nature’s Way Choline 500mg bitartrate tablets, and Twinlab L-Methionine 500mg capsules taken with food. I still try to take the choline and methionine everyday, and I notice a difference in my PMS when I am conscientious about taking them and paying attention to my diet.
