Lmarie gave you some good resources; I'll just say when it comes to paying out money, people may go to any lengths to avoid it. Attorneys know the laws: for example...most give free initial consultation...if they think you have a case will pursue for a piece of the pie - usually 33% of pie. I must say I am not from UK so may not quite understand your situation.
Most attorneys deal with patients who have been diagnosed with both mesothelioma as well as asbestosis. Larger settlements and verdicts are typically those which deal with mesothelioma, as mortality rates are much higher. Brake pads were made with asbestos and many automobile mechanics have been diagnosed with either mesothelioma or asbestosis. Mechanics who have been patients of both of these conditions have collected compensation from asbestos product manufacturers. Regardless, there should be some help for your husband and family as you negotiate this difficult disease.
