what would cause the fuse to blow when pushing the start button on a harley motorcycle i put new handle bars and switches on bike. all wires are color coded. i have everything working turn signals light horn etc, but when i hit the start button it blows the fuse and i loose the turn signals and the start button doesnt do anything but blow the fuse.
If you want it done and done right the first time do it yourself
it has to be a short dont always go by color cod maybe you did not put a ruber gasket in so positive leed grounds out when you push the button good luck
i would like to know: did the problem exist before or after switching the handle bars and/or switches, the year and model. sometimes wires get pinched when installing the switch housings. isolate the two wires going to the starter switch then (using an ohm meter) see if either wire is grounded (to the frame). anyone who owns a harley and works on it themselves NEEDS to have a service manual (bible). they have wiring diagrams. the bible will tell you everything you need to know. study it.
