What has happened to my daughter all the sudden?

My daughter has all of the sudden gained weight and gotten acne on her face and chest. Doctors says she is healthy, but she seems very unhappy, and understandably so. What can we do?

Hi,

Sounds like hormonal changes. I think you should wait out a bit. There are treatments for acne but some of them have side effects and It's a shame to go into intense medical treatment for a problem that'll go away by itself.

In common parlance, acne occurs when the pores of the skin are blocked by natural oil produced by our bodies and dirt. This mostly occurs during the onset of puberty, as the hormones are developing and also occurs regularly in pregnant women.

There are various acne products available in the market. People are taking antibiotics as an acne treatment much more today than in the past. However what happens is that your body becomes resistant to them, thus eliminating antibiotics as the best acne treatment.

Yes there is acne treatment and what is good is proactiv my 15 yr old daughter uses it its great. but you do need to watch for different signs like depression? my daughter went into a depression and what the called cutting them selfs because no one is believe that anything is wrong? if it is still going on please see another doctor if you have to talk to the doctor before both of you go inside?

Hi there...I know it has to be so upsetting to see your daughter go through something like this.  Being the mother of four daughters and three son AND now 14 grandchildren...all going though those teen years..I really do understand.  There are wonderful medications in pill form, that can clear up the acne so quickly you will be amazed.  I had a sweet nephew that went though it so badly that my heart ached for him.  My brother and his wife got treatment for him...and in just a few months, perhaps less..it all cleared up and he looked like a different person.  This does not always go away by itself, as you can see from different peoples terrible scars.  GET help...the treatment may not be cheap...but your sweet daughter will be grateful and happier.  These teen years are hard enough without the added stress of something like this.  Good luck to you.
