"With this goal of providing a faster performing product for all, certain difficult trade offs in regard to the technical implementation had to be made. As such, the difficult decision to remove the “Unsend” and “Status” features were part of those trade offs."

If AOL were in the car sales business that explanation might have gone like this.
Customer: I realized that my car no longer has air conditioning or any spare tire.
AOL Salesman: Sir, we realized this might be a bit of an inconvenience or be a surprise from your prior cars from us, but with the fuel crisis we had to make some tough decisions, to try and give you the best possible MPG. The lighter the car, the more MPG you will now enjoy. We hope most customers will enjoy that extra .001 miles per gallon we accomplished for them.
BTW, the beloved old heart at top of pages that you could click on to save it or send it in email (and other choices) .. that's gone in my new, horrible "AOL Desktop for AOL". AOL Salesmen: "Oh yes, we took the speedometer and temp and oil gages our too; made it streamlines and lighter ... more mpg, ya know! After all, you can accomplish the same thing - get that info another way - by taking it into the dealer and having him check those things and by carrying a stopwatch when driving to calculate the speed because we left the odometer in1" Wow, that's great AOL Salesmen ... you left us the odometer!
