Hi Amanda,Drug addicts and alcoholics (and this guy sure sounds like one) are skilled liars and manipulators; that's how they survive and portect their addictions. I sometimes say that the way to tell that an alcoholic or addict is telling a lie is whether he/she is talking. Addiction not only causes the addict to lie but also causes denial so that he truly may think he has his use under control. The only way an addict usually decides to get help is the result of paim and consequences from his addiction. So, I would tell this man the truth that he is an addict and alcoholic and needs help and that you can't be around him unless he stops using and gets into recovery.
