No grounding wire!

I'm replacing a ceiling light fixture with a ceiling fan. When I removed the original ceiling light fixture, the grounding wire from the light was attached to the mounting bracket. However, there is no grounding wire from the electrical box to connect with the new ceiling fan - the fan has a grounding wire that came pre-attached to its own mounting bracket, but there's nothing to attach it to with my home's wiring. Should I simply remove the grounding wire that came with the new fan? JGG

Many people do.  A way to add a ground could be to run a wire from the fixture or box to a pipe of your plumbing system.  If you can get to it from the attic or crawlspace, the metal vent stack should work okay, or run a wire to a circuit that has a ground.
